Happy New Year to all our
lovely readers and members
hope you are having either
a relaxing summer holiday
or an exciting adventure!
By the time you receive
this magazine, the team
here will have enjoyed its
break and already be back
on deck planning the next
issue of the magazine for autumn 2016. I know, it never stops!
This issue should get the wheels turning for you to plan
your next great escape. The theme is trains – and who doesn’t
like a train trip? So, all aboard!
And now to address the elephant in the room. The tragedy
and violence inflicted on Paris in November left the travelling
world reeling. What do we do after one of our favourite
destinations is perceived as a danger zone? Well, I asked Atout
France (the French Tourism office in Sydney) if Australians
were cancelling trips and avoiding Paris/France.
‘Non’, Aussies were cautiously suspending plans.
“Australians don’t cancel”, said a representative. It seems we
still go to places that have had their troubles. We returned to
Bali after both bombings, we returned to Christchurch after
the earthquakes, to Greece
after the riots... and the list
decision. Check with www.
an eye on social media,
check out international
news on the internet and
head off for a wonderful
holiday. There’s a smart
way to travel and being
informed and careful is
the trick. But go!
