Home' Get Up and Go : Winter 2016 Contents live. This area, which at various times
converts into a basketball court, a circus
school complete with trapeze and, in the
evening, a roller disco rink, is said to be
the largest indoor active space at sea. It
also boasts an X-Box room and foosball
and ping-pong tables.
You’ll also want to take advantage of one
or all of the four swimming pools (including
a glass-canopied adults-only solarium pool),
the state-of-the-art fitness centre, the spa,
the nine-metre rock climbing wall and the
giant poolside movie screen.
Like most of the new mega-liners there’s
a plethora of places to eat – everything
from a Jamie’s Italian to a traditional hot
dog stand – but the Alice in Wonderland
analogy is played out perfectly in the
weird and wonderful, er, Wonderful, a
temple to molecular gastronomy where
you start with what amounts to a surreal
medieval feast by ‘painting’ your own
menu to reveal the courses.
Personally, I loved the space-age Bionic
Bar, where you order your tipple on one
of the tablets scattered around the place
and then watch as one of the two robotic
arms go about mixing your cocktail.
Beware, though, that your drink will most
certainly be shaken, not stirred.
And the RipCord by iFly, tucked away
at the rear of the ship by the FlowRider
surf simulator, is worth every heart-
pounding, wind-roaring, cheek-flapping
moment. Man can fly!
It’s also said that the thing goes places
and you can get off occasionally. The first
cruise out of Sydney (15 nights) heads
first to Hobart and then sets out across
the Tasman to New Zealand, ending up
in Auckland after visiting Milford Sound,
Wellington and Picton, among other places.
